The audience for James Martin, SJ’s talk – overflow capacity, and many turned away. Estimated 1,200 people attending.
James Martin’s talk had three sections. First, he outlined six characteristics of LGBT (these are the initials he used) Catholics. The second section covered ten things parishes could do to be more welcoming. Finally, he looked at two Gospel stories and how they could be interpreted in light of the place of LGBT people in the church. The talk is reprinted in full at America Magazine.
Following James Martin’s talk, Becky and I met a nurse from the East Cape area of South Africa who works with LGBTI people. She had lots of questions! Looking forward to getting her connected with local groups.
Members of Dublin’s LGBT Choruses joined together to sing outside the World Meeting of Families to protest the lack of inclusion. This event was organized by We Are Church Ireland.
And now for a treat!
